About

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of our public playing is on hold.  We will update the schedule once we are able to do more.

The Dulcimer Gathering of the Lafayette, Indiana Area

We have a page on Facebook!

The Dulcimer Gathering is a loosely organized group of mountain and hammered dulcimer players who have been playing together since 1985. We gather together to enjoy the music, learn new songs and share our music with others.  Players of all levels are welcome to join us.

During the cooler months from September to May we meet indoors at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation building at the corner of North Street and Seventh Street in Lafayette to learn new songs and techniques, and just enjoy playing together. We also occasionally play at nursing and retirement homes and at other venues.

In the warmer months of June through August we meet weekly in an outdoor venue and welcome other acoustical instrument players to join us. We often have listeners bring a chair and enjoy the evening while we play our favorite pieces.  Over the years we have played at Fort Ouiatenon, on the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge, in Riehle Plaza, and at Centennial and Happy Hollow Parks. We are currently meeting at Cumberland Park on North Salisbury Street in West Lafayette. Check the schedule to learn more.

Our gatherings are fun, casual jams. Bring your dulcimer, or other instrument, and come join us.

  1. Hi Lana, In January we will be meeting on Thursday, January 16 at the home of one of our members for sharing some treats and playing music. We do this in place of having a holiday party. We normally meet on the third Thursday of the month (September through May) at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation building on 6th street in Lafayette. We meet from 7:00 to 8:30. In the summer we meet weekly in Cumberland Park. I think our January meeting will also be at 7:00, but I have not confirmed that yet. The person who is hosting the January gathering does give some lessons. If it will work for you to attend this meeting, you could meet her, some of the other players and enjoy some music. You could bring your dulcimer, and we can tune it and show you some basics that night. Please let me know if you would like to attend in January, and I can send you details after the first of the year when we have the time confirmed. My regular e-mail is: spetersyoung@gmail.com. Thanks, Sue Young

Do you give lessons? I have a dulcimer but do not have any experience.
When and where are you meeting in January 2020??

Please leave a reply if you'd like to.
